Arrival!

JUNE 15, 2011

We were off to a smooth start on Tuesday meeting up at the airport, checking in and boarding. We all agreed that the flight went so quickly !

We arrived at the PARIS American Academy and we were escorted to our assigned apartments. Living in apartments gives us the opportunity to feel like we are an integral part of the Parisian lifestyle. A quick rest and off we went to the Musee d’ Orsay. We took the public bus to the museum accompanied by PAA art history faculty member, Agnes Roux.

We were given an overview of the Impressionism collection (from pre to post) which was brief but comprehensive. Here is some feedback from the students ;

Marie-Elise :

Rizwan : I was really struck by Whistler`s portrait of his mother. His use of grey’s and negative space was so interesting and to be able to see this painting in person was great.

Taking the RER back to the PAA let us have the experience of riding the underground public transportation system of the city.

We met for a group dinner to toast our arrival ! What a great start to what I know will be an incredible and enriching experience.

Stay tuned as the students report from here on out !
